PRESS RELEASE
10-December-2015
Echternach/Luxemburg – FANUC Europe has restructured its European logistics, with a total of almost two million euros to be invested in the logistics operations. Now, the starting signal has gone off, and the ambitious project is set out to benefit both customers and FANUC itself. On a larger scale, the project is also embedded in a 10 million euro investment program. In connection with the logistics hub, at least 50 new jobs will be created in the next two years. The project was presented earlier today in Luxembourg by Economy Minister Etienne Schneider and Olaf Gehrels, CEO of FANUC Europe.
Three objectives will be reached by the restructured FANUC logistics: shorten delivery times, further increase availability of spare parts, and shorten lead times in the products’ supply chain. Thousands of pallets are currently stored decentralized, partly in rented warehouses. From a central storage facility, faster response times to customer requests could be achieved. The inventory management is easier with a central storage for FANUC - and thus improved throughout Europe for customers. For a total of 16 European offices of FANUC and their clients, the availability of required products and spare parts will increase.
The Cargo Airport in Luxembourg, with its connection to transport networks, will play a central role in the project. Until the end of 2016, an 11,000 m² warehouse in the Logistics Park Eurohub Centre in Findel will be used temporarily. From 2017, a final location of 20,000 m² in Contern will serve as the central logistics hub.
Olaf Gehrels: "Our analysis of the Supply Chain in Europe has shown that we can reduce transportation costs as well as storage cost. This will benefit both our customers and FANUC itself."
The cooperation with the logistic service provider makes it easier for companies and employees: “We would like to concentrate on core competences." Two logistic companies will take over a large part of the transport and storage. Nippon Yusen Kaisha takes over the over sea transport from Japan to Europe as well as direct transportations to the customers (end users). Kuehne + Nagel Luxembourg will be responsible for the storage of Robots and Robomachines, as well as taking over the FANUC warehouse related customer picking. FANUC Europe will keep the warehousing of CNC products.
